About the Creative Arts Contest

The goal of the St. Clair County CMH Creative Arts Contests is to help educate both young people and adults about the value of connecting mind and body for individuals who live with mental illnesses, intellectual / developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders.

About the High School Art Contest

2020 Art Contest Theme: Healing, Hope and Recovery
Entries must be the original, individual, hand created work of a St. Clair County student in grades 9-12. Entries may be in any medium other than digital / computer generated. Only one entry per student. Entries will be on display at CMH from Monday, April 6, 2020 through Thursday, April 30, 2020. Voting with paper ballots will take place on Thursday, April 30th from 9am to 5pm. On line voting will be open from Wednesday, April 8th to Thursday April 30th. Entries should be mailed or delivered to St. Clair County Community Health, 3111 Electric Avenue, Port Huron, MI 48060 no later than Friday, April 3, 2020.

Winners will be announced by the end of April. Prizes will be awarded to winners at the end of the year school awards ceremonies whenever possible.The 1st place winner will receive a cash award of $100, the 2nd place winner a cash award of $75, and the 3rd place winner a cash award of $50. The People’s Choice award winner will receive a cash award of $50. The Best in Show winner will receive a cash award of $250. Best in Show artwork will be featured in the CMH Annual Report, website, billboards, and other items throughout the year. All winning artwork will be displayed at the SCCCMH Annual Awards Meeting in and included in the contest booklet distributed to attendees at this event.

About the Middle School Writing Contest

2020 Writing Contest Theme: Healing, Hope and Recovery
Entries must be the original, individual, work of a St. Clair County student in grades 6-8. The Writing Contest has three categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction & Poetry. Fiction and non-fiction entries are limited to 500 words. There is no word limit on poetry entries. Students may enter one submission in each of the three categories. Entries should be mailed or delivered to St. Clair County Community Health, 3111 Electric Avenue, Port Huron, MI 48060 no later than Friday, April 3, 2020. A panel of judges that includes SCCCMH staff, individuals who use SCCCMH services, and trained professionals will judge the writing contest entries.

Winners will be announced by the end of April. Prizes will be awarded to winners at the end of the year school awards ceremonies whenever possible. A 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place cash prize will be awarded in each category. First place winners will receive a $100 cash award, 2nd place winners will receive a $75 cash award, and 3rd place winners will receive a $50 cash award. The Grand Prize Winner, selected from all three categories, will receive a $250 cash award.

The writing will be used to promote Mental Health Awareness throughout St. Clair County. The “Grand Prize Winner” winning submission will be included in the SCCCMH Annual Report. All winning entries are included in the 2020 Creative Arts Contest Booklet.

About the Elementary School Bookmark Contest

2020 Bookmark Theme: Be Kind
Entries must be the original, individual, art work of a St. Clair County student in K-5. Only one entry per student. One winner will be selected for each grade level (K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th). The design should reflect how being kind to others is important. Winners will be judged on originality, creativity, neatness, and printability. Winners will have their bookmark printed and distributed to participating schools in St. Clair County.
