Screening & Access Services
divider image

The purpose of the Screening & Access Services grant is to provide early and equal access to mental health services for youth and families. The grant is targeted towards children zero to seventeen (0-17) years old with a serious emotional disturbance. Through this grant, children will receive mental health screenings, assessments, referrals, and advocacy services.

Children can be referred to this service by school personnel, pediatricians, families, churches, Family Court, Department of Human Services, or other community entities.

Once a referral is made, a representative of St. Clair County Community Mental Health completes a screening to identify potential signs or emotional disturbance, overwhelming stressors, substance abuse, suicidal ideation, and patterns, of problem behavior in the home, school, or community.  The results of the screening may lead to a referral for a comprehensive mental health assessment by a Community Mental Health Child and Family Clinician.

Although the process does not determine eligibility for any specific treatment programs nor any certifications/programs within the schools, it may result in clinical recommendations and/or referrals to other resources in the community for service.  If one scores high in the suicidal section of the screening tool, there is a process in place to complete an emergency mental health assessment within 24 hours.

To make a referral, contact: Kathleen Braun at (810) 985-2147.
