OBRA Services
The Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA) staff provides pre-admission screenings to individuals seeking admission to a Medicaid certified nursing home. The purpose of the OBRA law is to prevent individuals with a mental illness and/or developmental disability who need treatment from being placed in nursing homes unless nursing home care is required. In addition to case management services (monitoring, linking to additional resources, coordinating services, and advocacy), the program also provides individual and group therapy to help individuals adjust to nursing home living.
Once an individual no longer requires continuous nursing home care or medical supervision, CMH will help them arrange needed treatment outside of the nursing home environment.
