Elderly Mental Health Initiative

An estimated 15-25% of elderly persons in the United States have significant symptoms of mental illness. The most common types of mental illness in the elderly include:

Elderly mental health concerns come from a variety of sources. Frustration with memory loss, substance abuse, death of a spouse, decreased mobility, loneliness, isolation, and chronic pain are just a few examples.  Certain medications can also worsen the symptoms of a mental illness.  Depression and other mental health concerns are NOT a normal part of aging.

The Elderly Mental Health Initiative provides mental health services for individuals 65 years old and older.  Services are offered in the client’s home, or in another convenient location.  Individuals will be assisted in finding the mental health care that best fits their needs, including individual therapy, support groups, and referrals to other local agencies.
