Adults and Children with Developmental Disabilities

The United States Department of Education has established a Federal definition of Developmental Disability:

Developmental Disability is a severe, chronic disability in an individual five years of age or older that is attributable to a mental or physical impairment, or a combination of mental and physical impairments, and:

Is manifested before the person attains age 22
Is likely to continue indefinitely
Results in substantial functional limitations in three or more areas of major life activity
Reflects the individual's need for a combination and sequence of special, interdisciplinary, or generic services, individualized supports, or other forms of assistance that are of lifelong or extended duration and are individually planned and coordinated.

To determine eligibility for CMH services, contact the St. Clair County Community Mental Health ACCESS customer services hotline Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at 1-888-225-4447. Crisis help also is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
